Leeds United formulating offer to sign Beto from Everton

Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Guinea-Bissau international Beto from Everton in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Beto is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are surprisingly keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window. So, the Everton centre-forward has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club, and they are preparing a bid to secure his services this month.

Beto and his Everton career so far

Beto has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Everton from Udinese in August 2023. The Lisbon native spent his formative years in Portugal, passing through the academies at Oeiras and SL Benfica while embarking on three spells with URD Tires, the club where he turned professional nearly a decade ago.

However, the 27-year-old rose in prominence during his spell after leaving Portugal, making considerable progress during his short spell with Udinese. As for his stint with Everton, the player was in and out of the starting lineup in his first 18 months at Goodison Park before becoming a regular under David Moyes.

The Guinea-Bissau international contributed to 13 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions, finding the back of the net 12 times and providing one assist. Meanwhile, the former Udinese striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Leeds United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Leeds United’s interest in Beto was understandable a few weeks ago. However, the continued links are surprising, considering Dominic Calvert-Lewin has joined the West Yorkshire outfit this week, thus becoming the second striker to arrive at Elland Road in the summer transfer window after Lukas Nmecha.

While the Whites have sanctioned a season-long loan to RCD Mallorca for Mateo Joseph and are ready to part ways with Patrick Bamford in the ongoing transfer window, Daniel Farke already has three other strikers in his squad. Nevertheless, Leeds United will pursue Beto’s signature this summer, and they are preparing a bid to sign him from Everton.

The report has claimed that Leeds United’s impending bid will be worth £20-22 million. While Everton will aim to part ways with the 27-year-old Guinea-Bissau international in the summer transfer window after David Moyes’s gripe with his attitude during pre-season, it is unclear if an offer of around £20-22 million will do the trick.
