Leeds United will not launch an offensive to sign 24-year-old Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Corriere della Sera, as relayed by Sport Witness, Rodrigo Muniz has been the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites have been eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window despite landing Lukas Nmecha. So, the 24-year-old Fulham centre-forward has been a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
However, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have ruled out a summer move for the South American attacker after striking an agreement to complete a Bosman move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, a move to Serie A club Atalanta may be on the cards for the Fulham striker, with the Cottagers keen on recouping €45 million from his sale.
Rodrigo Muniz and his time at Fulham so far
Rodrigo Muniz has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Fulham from Flamengo in August 2021. The 24-year-old has been with the West London outfit for nearly four years, but he has been a regular at Craven Cottage since the 2023/24 season. However, Muniz has been behind Raul Jimenez in the pecking order for strikers at Fulham.
The Brazilian striker did not even manage 1,500 minutes of game time across 36 appearances in all competitions. However, he contributed to 13 goals by finding the back of the net 11 times and providing two assists. Meanwhile, the player’s stock in the market remains high, with widespread reports linking him with Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Leeds United’s interest in Rodrigo Muniz has made sense. The Whites have been combing the market for a striker this summer despite completing a bargain move for Lukas Nmecha earlier this summer. However, having allowed Mateo Joseph to join RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan deal, Leeds United must sign another striker, considering Patrick Bamford has no future at Elland Road.
So, Muniz has been a viable target, and recent reports suggested that Leeds United did not lose hope in the battle for the Fulham striker’s signature despite his links with Atalanta. However, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have cooled their interest in the player.
Fulham’s insistence on recouping €45 million from Muniz’s sale contributed to Leeds United’s decision, along with the fact that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will soon complete a Bosman move to Elland Road. So, a move to Serie A may be on the cards for the 24-year-old Brazilian striker, with Atalanta in talks with Fulham over a deal.
