Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 26-year-old Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by French outlet L’Equipe, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.
The former AC Milan wonderkid is also a target for Manchester United due to Andre Onana’s inconsistencies since arriving from Inter Milan two years ago. However, Donnarumma has sealed an agreement on personal terms with Manchester City, leaving the Red Devils in a spot of bother.
Gianluigi Donnarumma at a crossroads in his career
Gianluigi Donnarumma has been a household name in European football for nearly a decade. The 26-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with AC Milan, and he has come leaps and bounds since joining PSG in a Bosman move in July 2021. However, the player has reached a crossroads in his career after Luis Enrique omitted him from the matchday squad for the UEFA Super Cup.
The Italian international has turned out over 150 times thus far for PSG while keeping 52 clean sheets and conceding 152 goals. However, Donnarumma will not play again for Les Parisiens, with the situation capturing the attention of several bigwigs, including Manchester City and Manchester United.
Premier League adventure up next for Donnarumma?
Manchester City’s interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma is baffling. The Citizens have re-signed James Trafford from Burnley this summer. While Ederson Moraes and Stefan Ortega face an uncertain future at the Etihad, it is unclear why they want another shot-stopper. Nevertheless, the PSG goalkeeper is a target for Manchester City, with the Premier League club striking an agreement on personal terms with him.
As for Manchester United, Andre Onana has endured a topsy-turvy ride since arriving from Inter Milan two years ago. As for Altay Bayindir, the Turk has not been convincing enough in his limited outings. So, Donnarumma has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. However, the struggling Premier League giants may have fallen behind in the battle for his signature.
While recent reports have pointed to Manchester United leading the battle for Donnarumma’s signature, his personal terms agreement with Manchester City has created an issue for the Red Devils. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 26-year-old Italian international.
