According to a report by The Guardian, Mateus Fernandes is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old Southampton prospect has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
The Hammers are preparing their opening bid to sign the Olhao native, with Jacob Ramsey and Ngal’ayel Mukau also featuring on their wishlist. Meanwhile, Southampton will demand around £30 million to part ways with Fernandes in the summer transfer window.
How has Mateus Fernandes fared so far for Southampton?
Mateus Fernandes has been a rare bright spot in an underperforming team since joining Southampton from Sporting CP last summer. While the 21-year-old was not as productive as he would have liked, the youngster was not a factor in the Saints finishing at the bottom of the Premier League table in the 2024/25 campaign and returning to the EFL Championship.
The Portuguese midfielder has chipped in with three goals and six assists in 43 appearances thus far for Southampton.
