Liverpool will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Uruguayan international Ronald Araujo from Barcelona in a deal worth €60 million in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ronald Araujo is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old Barcelona defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
The Premier League champions are prioritising a summer move for Marc Guehi, and the Barcelona vice-captain has emerged as an alternative to the English international. Liverpool will aim to secure his services in a deal worth €60 million, and they are preparing their opening bid to sign Araujo from Barcelona.
Ronald Araujo and his story so far
Ronald Araujo has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at FC Barcelona. The 26-year-old became a regular for the senior team nearly half a decade ago, and he has turned out over 150 times thus far for Barcelona while chipping in with ten goals and seven assists.
The Uruguayan international has also become a mainstay for La Celeste, and his exploits for his club and country have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Barcelona vice-captain, with Liverpool among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Liverpool’s long-term interest in Ronald Araujo is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future after entering the final 12 months of his contract. Additionally, Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career, and Joe Gomez has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Liverpool sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer, leaving Arne Slot with only three centre-backs. So, the Premier League champions need a new centre-back, with Marc Guehi emerging as their top target. However, they have kept their options open, with Araujo being an alternative to Guehi.
The Reds are ready to submit a bid worth €60 million to sign the 26-year-old Uruguayan international from Barcelona. With Liverpool reportedly failing with two bids to sign Guehi, pursuing Araujo’s signature by offering €60 million may be worthwhile.
