Aleksandar Mitrovic may not be a viable target for Leeds United in the summer transfer window due to his £400,000-a-week wages at Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
According to a report by Football Insider, Aleksandar Mitrovic is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 30-year-old Al-Hilal centre-forward has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League.
However, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have hit a stumbling block, as the Serb’s £400,000-a-week wages pose an issue. Considering Al-Hilal’s asking price of £40 million, Mitrovic may not be an affordable target for Leeds United, with the two monetary factors becoming “major obstacles” for the West Yorkshire outfit’s hopes.
Aleksandar Mitrovic and his life-changing move
Aleksandar Mitrovic has established himself as one of the best players in the Saudi Pro League since joining Al-Hilal from Fulham in a surprise move in August 2023. The 30-year-old has made significant progress in the last two years, making his mark in domestic and continental competitions. The experienced striker was exceptional in the 2024/25 season, contributing to 35 goals in 36 outings by finding the back of the net 28 times and providing seven assists.
Meanwhile, Mitrovic’s progress at Al-Hilal has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the Serbian international, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Leeds United’s interest in Aleksandar Mitrovic is understandable. The Whites are scouring the market for a striker this summer, even though they have signed Lukas Nmecha earlier in the transfer window. However, Daniel Farke wants more firepower in the final third, even though Joel Piroe was impressive in the 2024/25 EFL Championship title-winning campaign.
Meanwhile, the Whites have sanctioned Mateo Joseph’s loan move to RCD Mallorca, and they will part ways with Patrick Bamford in the summer transfer window. So, Mitrovic has emerged as a viable target for Leeds United, although they have encountered an issue in the battle for his signature.
The 30-year-old Serb’s £400,000-a-week wages and Al-Hilal’s asking price of £40 million have combined to become “major obstacles” for Leeds United. While forking out £40 million may be possible, Leeds United cannot afford to match Mitrovic’s wages. So, a summer deal may not see the light of day unless the Serbian striker takes a pay cut.
