West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old German goalkeeper Michael Zetterer from Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Sky Deutschland, Michael Zetterer is the subject of interest of West Ham United. The Hammers are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 30-year-old SV Werder Bremen shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the East London club.
While widespread reports have suggested that John Victor is closing in on joining West Ham United, the links with goalkeepers have not stopped. The Hammers have submitted their opening offer to sign the Werder Bremen goalkeeper, although the bid falls below the Bundesliga club’s asking price of €7 million.
Michael Zetterer and his career so far
Michael Zetterer has been one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the Bundesliga in the last few seasons. The Munich native spent his formative years with unheralded clubs but has risen in prominence during his spell in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.
The German goalkeeper has turned out 79 times thus far for Werder Bremen while keeping 22 clean sheets and conceding 119 goals. However, Zetterer’s long-term future at the Bundesliga club is uncertain, and the situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs. West Ham United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Michael Zetterer makes sense. The Hammers have been combing the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Lukasz Fabianski as a free agent. In addition, Alphonse Areola has blown hot and cold throughout his spell with the West London club, with his spot as the first-choice goalkeeper under threat.
Several candidates, including Mads Hermansen, have emerged on West Ham United’s radar, with Zetterer also a viable target. While recent reports have claimed that John Victor is closing in on joining the East London club, they remain interested in other goalkeepers. So, they have submitted a bid to sign the Munich native from Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window.
However, West Ham’s offer has not matched the Bundesliga club’s asking price of €5 million. Meanwhile, other goalkeepers, including Dominik Livakovic, are on the East London club’s wishlist. It will be interesting to see if any other goalkeeper apart from John Victor joins West Ham this summer.
