Manchester United will reportedly look to beat Newcastle United to 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on bolstering their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig centre-forward has emerged as a target for them.
However, Manchester United may have fallen behind Newcastle United after the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners submitted their opening bid to sign Sesko. Nevertheless, that has not dampened the spirits at Old Trafford, as the struggling Premier League giants are optimistic about beating Newcastle United to his signature.
Benjamin Sesko and his progress at RB Leipzig
Benjamin Sesko has seen his stock skyrocket since joining RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in July 2023. The 22-year-old has come leaps and bounds at the Red Bull Arena, particularly after establishing a foothold as a first-choice starter nearly 18 months ago.
The Slovenian international was excellent in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 27 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 21 times and providing six assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United and Newcastle United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Benjamin Sesko makes sense. The Red Devils are eager to sign a striker this summer after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggled to produce enough returns in front of the goal in the 2024/25 season. So, Sesko has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, with recent reports suggesting they are ready to launch a bid to secure his services.
As for Newcastle United, the Tyneside outfit recently submitted a bid to sign the 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker in the summer transfer window. While the Bundesliga giants have turned down the offer, widespread reports have suggested that the Magpies are increasingly confident of signing Sesko.
Recent reports have suggested that the Slovenian international is keen on joining Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. That may be part of the reason for Newcastle United’s growing optimism. However, with Manchester United also confident of landing the young striker, the two Premier League clubs may be on the verge of a bidding war.
