Chelsea attacking sensation Marc Guiu is all set to join newly promoted Sunderland on a season-long loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea forward Marc Guiu on loan for the 2025/26 season. While Guiu remains a part of the Blues’ long-term plans, they wanted to ensure he gets regular first-team action next season.
The Spanish youth international was a part of Barcelona’s famous youth academy, La Masia. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team at the start of 2024. After just a handful of appearances for the La Liga giants, Chelsea knocked on their doors and struck a deal for the 19-year-old forward.
Since moving to Stamford Bridge last summer, he has been involved in 16 matches. In just over 600 minutes of first-team action, the teenager has bagged six goals. While he certainly has the potential to be a special player, Enzo Maresca wasn’t able to hand him enough minutes last season.
With the Blues making multiple signings up top, the Italian manager is not sure if Guiu will have regular first-team action this season as well. As a result, the London club were looking to send him out on loan to another Premier League club.
Guiu to join Sunderland in the coming days
They preferred a move within the top flight, as they want him to fully adapt to life in English football. Sunderland emerged as a potential destination. The Black Cats are looking to add more quality to their squad as they want to avoid relegation at all costs.
Their manager seeks more options in the final third and feels Guiu could come in handy. He certainly has an eye for goal, and his overall work rate suggests he could do the job for them. They have reached an agreement with the London club for a loan deal.
Sunderland will cover the entire salary of the teenage attacking sensation, who is expected to have a very important role in their team. It will be a straightforward loan move without any buy options. The Blues have full faith in Guiu, and he is an integral part of their long-term plans. As a result, they have no intentions of parting ways with him anytime soon.
