Everton are hopeful of sealing a deal for Malick Fofana with Lyon before next weekend as the move continues to advance in the background.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey TBR Football, Everton are eager to close a deal for exciting attacker Malick Fofana before next weekend. Talks with Lyon have advanced over the last few days, with the Toffees likely to close an agreement for over €40 million for the winger.
Everton are making inroads with regards to their transfer activity this summer, having already done some important business. The Toffees have already landed Thierno Barry, Carlos Alcaraz and Mark Travers in this window, while they are closing in on two more key arrivals.
One of them is Bayern Munich’s Adam Aznou, with the left-back seen as important for the depth of the position. Meanwhile, their key transfer target is Malick Fofana, with the Toffees eager to land him in time they play their first game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where they will move ahead of the new campaign.
However, Everton are hopeful of landing Fofana before next weekend, when they take on Manchester United in a pre-season friendly. The Toffees are advancing for the forward as they have held extensive discussions with the winger’s camp, who have signalled their intent to make the move to Merseyside.
Lyon have already rejected Evertons opening offer of €36 million, including add-ons, with the French side demanding at least €40 million as the base fee. Everton are expected to improve their bid, and there is a likelihood they end up paying more than €40 million for the winger who had 17 goals and assists across all competitions for the French side.

Everton are not only closing in on a move for Fofana, but they could end up beating a host of high-profile rivals in the process. Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are all interested, with the Reds in particular likely to suffer a big blow if Fofana goes to their local rivals, Everton.
The Belgian winger has a huge ceiling to develop, and he could be a key addition for the present and future of Everton. Moreover, this is exactly the kind of signing that will get the crowd excited, who have suffered from some difficult moments in the last tw or three years, as someone like Fofana could add the much-needed spark at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
