Yoane Wissa inching closer to Newcastle United move

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are closing in on the signature of Tottenham attacking target Yoane Wissa.

According to Sebastien Vidal, Newcastle United are keen on acquiring the services of Yoane Wissa, and they are close to reaching an agreement with the Brentford striker on a potential move to Tyneside. While Tottenham are also interested in him, the Magpies seem to be taking the lead at this stage.

Wissa has been a part of the Brentford setup since 2021. The 28-year-old has only gone from strength to strength over the years. He was on fire last season as he ended up contributing towards 25 goals in his 39 outings.

His exceptional performances have attracted a lot of interest from rival clubs in England. While he only has a year left on his deal, the Bees have the option to extend it by another 12 months. Brentford do have a lot of control over his future, but they might still struggle to keep hold of him.

He recently left their training camp in Portugal, which has further sparked speculations about his future. While he is expected to join them once they return home, Wissa could even secure a move away amidst interest from Tottenham and Newcastle.

Newcastle are front-runners for Wissa

Thomas Frank is a massive admirer of the 28-year-old, having worked closely with him at Brentford. He is keen on having him at Tottenham, and the North London club are pushing for his signature. But they seem to be behind Newcastle at this point.

The Tyneside club are looking to sign a new striker who can support Isak and provide Eddie Howe with more depth and firepower in the final third. While they want Wissa as more of a backup option, he could even end up being the leader of their attack as Isak’s future is uncertain.

The Magpies have been in talks with the 28-year-old for a while now, and they are within touching distance of agreeing personal terms with the Brentford striker. Even if they do manage to get the player’s green light, there will still be a lot of work to be done as the Bees are looking for over £50 million for their star forward.
