Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 18-year-old French defensive wonderkid Jaydee Canvot from Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by The Athletic, Jaydee Canvot is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are eager to bolster their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 18-year-old Toulouse defensive prospect has emerged as a target for the West Midlands club.
The rising Premier League giants have intensified their efforts to sign the Frenchman, submitting a bid to the Ligue 1 outfit. However, Aston Villa’s proposal has fallen flat, with Toulouse rejecting the offer. But talks between the two clubs have continued, and Villa will aim to strike an agreement over a deal to sign Canvot.
Jaydee Canvot and his recent advent
France continues to produce promising prodigies, and Jaydee Canvot is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. The Argenteuil native has spent his formative years thus far in France, starting his youth career at his hometown club RFC Argenteuil before moving to AS Bondy. However, he graduated from the youth division at Toulouse FC.
The 18-year-old has already turned out 29 times thus far for Toulouse while chipping in with three goals. Meanwhile, the French defensive sensation’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Jaydee Canvot makes sense, even though they should also sign an experienced centre-back. The Villans are combing the market for a centre-back this summer, as Axel Disasi has returned to Chelsea after the expiration of his loan deal. In addition, Tyrone Mings is on the wrong side of 30, and the experienced defender has struggled with fitness issues in the last few seasons.
So, several candidates, including Yann Bisseck, have emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Canvot also being a viable target. The Villans have intensified their efforts to sign the 18-year-old Frenchman by submitting a bid to secure his services. However, the proposal did not convince Toulouse to part ways with the youngster in the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, personal terms should not be an issue, with recent reports suggesting Canvot is keen on joining Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if the West Midlands outfit can secure an agreement with Toulouse over a possible deal for the French defensive sensation.
