LAFC make approach for Son Heung-min move

LAFC have contacted Tottenham for skipper Son Heung-min ahead of a potential transfer, with a decision expected in the coming days.

According to Fabrizio Romano, LAFC are taking their chances with the pursuit of Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min. With Spurs stepping into a new era under Thomas Frank, there is a chance for the South Korean to depart, but any decision will depend on talks involving the player, club and manager.

Tottenham’s win in the Europa League final allowed fans and the club to ponder some difficult decisions ahead of their summer business. One of those has been the debate around skipper Son Heung-min and whether he should leave the club on a high at a time when his powers are realistically on the downward curve.

Tottenham had been thinking about cashing in on the ten-year veteran, with Daniel Levy expecting some offers to come in for their captain. Son still has a year left on his deal at Spurs, which will realistically allow the club to receive a decent transfer fee should the South Korean depart.

LAFC held an interest along with Saudi sides, with the MLS giants seen as a more realistic destination as far as Son is concerned, as per reports. Yet, a decision on a potential departure from Spurs remains undecided, and that has caused LAFC to fear losing out on the attacker.

There is still life in this transfer speculation to the LAFC side, who have made an approach for the ten-year Tottenham veteran. LAFC have a third designated spot vacant after the departure of Olivier Giroud this summer, which allows them to pay Son a lucrative salary as it will not interfere with the MLS salary cap.

Son Heung-min to hold talks with Tottenham, Thomas Frank

Talks with LAFC are still in the early stages, and there is no clarity on whether Spurs and Son would want the move. The final decision will be with the club and the player, as the ten-year Tottenham veteran will also hold talks with manager Frank to determine where he stands in his plans for the new season.

Moreover, Tottenham are touring Asia for their pre-season, and Seoul is part of their travel itinerary. Should Levy decide to accept an offer from LAFC now, it will hamper their commercial and marketing angles for this tour of Asia, meaning any decision on the veteran attacker might materialise after the team returns to North London.
