Manchester United ramping up efforts to sign Eivind Helland

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old Norwegian centre-back Eivind Helland from SK Brann this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Eivind Helland is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are seeking a long-term defensive solution by signing a young centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 20-year-old imposing SK Brann whizkid has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.

However, Manchester United will face stiff competition from Bayern Munich and Rangers for the highly-rated Scandinavian defender, and he will be available for a cut-price fee in the summer transfer window. SK Brann will demand around £8 million to part ways with Helland, who stands at 6ft 4in tall.

Who is Eivind Helland?

Eivind Helland is the latest player to rise in prominence in his homeland. Norway has produced several world-class players in the past half a decade, with Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland leading the charge for the Scandinavian country. The Bergen native spent his formative years in Norway, passing through the academies at Saedalen IL and FK Fyllingsdalen before graduating from the youth division at SK Brann.

The 20-year-old has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for SK Brann while chipping in with three goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Helland’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

A man in demand

Manchester United’s interest in Eivind Helland is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a centre-back, albeit one who can be a long-term solution at the heart of the defence. With Harry Maguire on the wrong side of 30, Manchester United can do with a young defender. So, Helland has emerged as a viable target for the Premier League club.

As for Bayern Munich, Kim Min-jae faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena amid his links with Premier League clubs. In addition, Hiroki Ito is a long-term absentee for the Bavarian outfit. So, Bayern Munich can do with a new centre-back, with Helland an option worth considering.

The 6ft 4in Norwegian defender will not cost a bomb, with SK Brann demanding around £8 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Rangers will compete with Bayern Munich and Manchester United to sign the 20-year-old centre-back.
