Chelsea are not open to the prospect of loaning Carney Chukwuemeka this summer and wants an outright sale amid Borussia Dortmund talks.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are reluctant to sanction another loan move for forgotten midfield prodigy Carney Chukwuemeka. Borussia Dortmund are interested in re-signing the midfielder on loan once more, but the Blues are only interested in a permanent transfer at this moment.
Carney Chukwuemeka was one of the first young signings of this Chelsea era under the new ownership. Back then, the Blues agreed to pay a premium fee to secure the midfielder from Aston Villa, but things have gone downhill for the promising talent since.
Injuries have curtailed his development into one of the top midfielders in England, having featured only 32 times for Chelsea across all competitions since. Last season, after a frustrating first half of the campaign, Chukwuemeka was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund, with the move not yielding the desired results.
Chukwuekema only played about 10 times in the Bundesliga but accumulated only about 245 minutes from those outings. Despite the lack of an important place in the team under Niko Kovac, the Germans are keen to bring him back on loan for the whole season ahead.
Chukwuemeka was open to the prospect of rejoining Dortmund, and earlier, there were suggestions he could have been involved in a swap or exchange deal involving Jamie Gittens. While the winger has already signed for Chelsea, the London giants are not willing to sanction another loan deal for the forgotten midfield prodigy.
Chelsea will allow the departure on one condition
Chukwuemeka’s current deal with Chelsea expires in 2028, and the club are not willing to sanction another loan deal for the midfielder. They feel any suitor should take him off their books permanently, meaning should if Dortmund wants him, it must be an outright purchase.
Chelsea’s asking price remains unclear at this stage, although one might believe they will demand significantly, considering their investment in the midfielder. Hence, Dortmund might try another way, or else they might move on to other targets if a deal is not under the right conditions.
