West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Swiss defender Albian Hajdari from FC Lugano in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by German outlet Fussball Transfers, Albian Hajdari is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old FC Lugano defender has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
West Ham and Hajdari have already struck a verbal agreement on personal terms over a possible move, and he “wants to earn his money in the Premier League”. Meanwhile, the youngster has a release clause worth €5 million in his contract with FC Lugano, with the Premier League club yet to trigger it. Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen are also keen on signing him this summer.
Who is Albian Hajdari?
Albian Hajdari has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland since joining FC Lugano from Juventus. A native of Binningen, the 22-year-old spent most of his formative years in Switzerland but graduated from the youth division at Juventus. However, the youngster could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Serie A club and has found a stable footing since returning to the country.
The Swiss international has turned out over 100 times thus far for FC Lugano while chipping in with five goals and one assist. Meanwhile, Hajdari’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. West Ham United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Albian Hajdari is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a centre-back this summer after Jean-Clair Todibo struggled to make his mark in the 2024/25 season. In addition, Konstantinos Mavropanos has blown hot and cold for most of his spell with West Ham.
So, several candidates, including Koni De Winter, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Hajdari also a viable target. The two parties have found a verbal agreement on personal terms, and the Binningen native “wants to earn his money in the Premier League”.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Swiss international has a release clause worth €5 million in his contract with FC Lugano. However, while Hajdari can be a cost-effective signing, West Ham will face stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen for his signature.
