Real Madrid preparing big-money move for Enzo Fernandez

Real Madrid are reportedly willing to make a €150 million offer to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, with Xabi Alonso keen to add the midfielder to his squad.

According to Fichajes, Enzo Fernandez is on Real Madrid’s radar following Xabi Alonso’s request to add a new midfielder. The Spanish giants are reportedly willing to fork out €150 million to test Chelsea’s resolve on the Argentine star, who could be potentially tempted with a move to the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid are yet to get into full swing when it comes to their transfer activities. The Spanish giants recently signed Alvaro Carreras, who, alongside Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will strengthen their backline. Franco Mastantuono is also expected to arrive from River Plate soon, but Xabi Alonso is now keen to bolster his midfield.

Alonso wants a new midfielder in his system who has a different profile from those currently in the squad. The ideal choice would be to sign someone who fits into the mould of former stars Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, with none of the current options capable of that. Real Madrid are interested in Enzo Fernandez, although any deal will require sales.

On the sales part, the report states that Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo Goes, and Fran Garcia could be on the way out, who could fetch a sizeable fee. Real Madrid are ready to fork out €150 million to sign the Chelsea star. Fernandez was previously courted by Atletico Madrid, and there have been a few links to Real Madrid too in the past.

Alonso reportedly likes the idea of Fernandez, as he is probably thinking of implementing a similar system akin to his time at Bayer Leverkusen. Back then, the Spanish coach preferred a double-pivot in the centre, and currently, he may not have the right profiles to adapt such a style.

Will Chelsea sell Enzo Fernandez?

Chelsea have had a different approach to transfer business, with the new owners emphasising the idea of buying young players and then selling them on a profit further down the line. They have done so with a number of their players, although Fernandez, among others, are part of their long-term thinking. Hence, there are considerable doubts whether they will sell.

Real Madrid’s €150 million offer could tempt Chelsea, but selling Fernandez will come across as a big blow to their plans ahead. Meanwhile, the Argentine midfielder’s decision could also prove important as he might be tempted by the prospect of playing for Real Madrid, which should change the outcome of this saga.
