Everton will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old Greek full-back Georgios Vagiannidis from Super League heavyweights Panathinaikos in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Georgios Vagiannidis is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Panathinaikos full-back has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
However, Everton must wait until August to secure the youngster’s services, as the Greek Super League giants “want him for the Champions League match against Rangers”. However, Panathinaikos will hope to have a bidding war for Vagiannidis, with Sporting CP and other clubs also keen on securing his services.
The recent rise of Georgios Vagiannidis
Georgios Vagiannidis has come leaps and bounds since rejoining Panathinaikos from Inter Milan in September 2021. The 23-year-old has broken into his national side due to his exploits for his club, having turned out over 100 times thus far for the Super League giants while chipping in with three goals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Vagiannidis has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe with his exploits for Panathinaikos. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the Greek international. Everton will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Georgios Vagiannidis is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a right-back this summer after parting ways with Ashley Young as a free agent. In addition, Seamus Coleman is in the twilight of his career and slowly transitioning into the coaching sphere.
Furthermore, Nathan Patterson has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with Everton. So, several candidates, including Vladimir Coufal, have emerged on the Merseyside club’s radar, with Vagiannidis also a viable target. However, the Premier League club must wait until August to sign the Panathinaikos full-back.
