Tottenham face Serie A competition in Koni De Winter chase

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur will face significant competition from Serie A clubs for the signature of Genoa defensive mainstay Koni De Winter.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are looking to add more depth and quality to their backline, and they are interested in the services of Koni De Winter. While Spurs are pushing to sign the Genoa mainstay, they could face a lot of competition from top Italian clubs.

While things did not work out for De Winter at Juventus, the move to Genoa has certainly helped his cause. He joined them initially on a season-long loan back in 2023. On the back of his impressive performances, the move was made permanent last summer.

The 23-year-old Belgian defender struggled with a hamstring injury last season, but he did manage to put in some impressive performances in his 26 outings across competitions. While there are some fitness concerns around him, there is still a lot of interest in his services from across Europe.

Spurs keen on signing Koni De Winter

Tottenham are one of the clubs that are very keen on signing the young defender. The North London club are looking for a versatile defender who can add depth to Thomas Frank’s backline. De Winter will not only give them more options in the heart of the defence, but he can even feature as a full-back when needed.

The youngster has certainly impressed the North London club’s recruitment chiefs, and they are very keen on adding him to their squad. But Tottenham won’t find it easy to sign him, as there could be a lot of competition for his signature.

Serie A clubs could cause problems for Tottenham

Inter Milan are quite keen on signing the 23-year-old. The Nerazzurri consider him an ideal alternative to Giovanni Leoni, who is valued at €40 million. While reports earlier suggested that De Winter could cost around €35 million, Genoa are looking for something between €25-30 million, which is certainly a more affordable figure for Inter.

Thanks to the bargain price tag, Atalanta, Napoli and AC Milan are also interested in signing him. All three clubs have knocked on Genoa’s door to gather more information about a potential transfer.

Despite the heavy competition, Spurs still remain in talks to sign the 23-year-old, but they are hesitant to pay anything above €25 million. As a result, they are considering whether to make a formal offer or shift their focus towards other targets. Meanwhile, Genoa have made it quite clear that they won’t lower their demand as they must hand 20 per cent of any resale fee to Juventus.
