Aston Villa miss out on Jesus Rodriguez, player was open to move

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have reportedly failed to strike a deal with Real Betis for the services of Jesus Rodriguez.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Aston Villa have missed out on the signing of Jesus Rodriguez. The Birmingham-based club were very keen on adding him to their squad after scouting him for around a year, but they have failed to reach an agreement with Real Betis.

While Rodriguez was keen on making the move to Aston Villa and wanted to play under Unai Emery, the two clubs could not reach a common ground during negotiations. As things stand, the teenage attacking sensation is set to join Cesc Fabregas’ Como.

Rodriguez has come up the ranks at Real Betis. He got promoted to their first team at the start of the year and has already featured in 32 matches while contributing towards five goals. His impressive rise and performances for the senior side have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.

Aston Villa were one of the clubs keen on signing him. The Birmingham-based club are looking to add more firepower on the flanks. With Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio returning to their parent clubs, they certainly need more options on the flanks.

Aston Villa fail in their attempt to sign Rodriguez

Aston Villa do retain their interest in Rashford, but failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League has resulted in a financial blow, which complicates a deal for the English international. They decided to focus on the 19-year-old Spanish youth international and were in talks to sign him after scouting him for 12 months.

While the player was ready to make the switch, Aston Villa have failed to strike a deal with Real Betis. As a result, they are set to miss out on the Spanish prospect. Multiple top clubs from across Europe were keen on his signature but it seems Como have won the race for his signature.

The Serie A outfit have reached an agreement with him on personal terms, and they are set to pay £23 million to the Spanish club to have the teenager in their ranks. As a part of the deal, Real Betis will have a significant sell-on clause. While it is a massive blow for Aston Villa, they are set to shift their focus towards other targets.
