Chelsea have already triggered the clause to make Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho’s transfer permanent.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Chelsea have secured the services of Jadon Sancho on a permanent basis. While reports earlier suggested they could look to send him back to Manchester United, the Blues have already triggered the buy option in his loan deal.
Sancho made quite a name for himself while playing for Borussia Dortmund. He was regarded as one of the best young wingers in the world. On the back of his impressive rise, Manchester United broke the bank to sign him in the summer of 2021.
Unfortunately, the move didn’t work out for the Red Devils as the 25-year-old failed to reach his true potential. He eventually returned to Dortmund for a short loan spell after falling out with then-manager Erik ten Hag.
While he was back at the club last summer after an impressive spell at the German club, there was no way back for him in United’s first team. As a result, they ended up sending him out on another loan. This time Chelsea struck a deal with the Red Devils for the English winger.
He has featured in a total of 34 matches for the Blues and contributed towards 13 goals (3 goals, 10 assists). While Chelsea are yet to see the best of him, he has certainly done a lot better at Stamford Bridge than he did at Old Trafford.
When the Blues agreed on a deal with United to sign the English international, it included a conditional obligation to buy, the move would become permanent provided Chelsea didn’t finish below 15th in the league.
Chelsea have signed Sancho permanently
Once it was certain that the London club couldn’t finish below 15th, they were obligated to pay the fee. The only way out was to pay a fine of £5 million. The Blues had no intentions of doing that, as a result, they have already triggered the buy option.
They are quite happy with his performances so far and key figures at the club consider it a smart investment. They have already decided to have him in the first team for the next season rather than cashing in on him straight away.
The Blues are ready to pay the full amount as they feel he is valued at much more than £25 million. More importantly, they believe they can make a significant profit on him if they decide to sell him in the future. As far as United are concerned, they will be happy to have him off their books and will now focus on bringing in a top-level replacement.
