Chelsea hold talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have held talks to sign Sporting CP star striker Viktor Gyokeres amidst interest from rivals Arsenal.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are keen on acquiring the services of Viktor Gyokeres and have already held talks with his representatives as they look to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer. While Arsenal could rival them in their pursuit, the Blues are believed to be at the front of the queue at this point.

Gyokeres has been on fire since making the move to Sporting CP from Coventry City back in the summer of 2023. He had an exceptional debut season and has backed it up with yet another impressive campaign, having contributed towards 55 goals (44 goals, 11 assists) in his 44 outings.

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as some of the biggest clubs in the world are after his signature. Chelsea are keen on reinforcing their attack this summer, and the Swedish international is believed to be quite high on their list.

While Nicolas Jackson has been doing a great job for Enzo Maresca’s team, the Italian wants a more experienced striker to lead him line as they look to take the next step. Initially, they were looking to go all out to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen (€75 million release clause).

Chelsea are now pushing for Gyokeres’ signature

But they seem to have shifted their attention towards other targets in recent weeks. Gyokeres is now believed to be their top target for the summer, and they have already held direct contract with his representatives. The Blues have made it quite clear that they are interested in signing him this summer.

During their talks with the player’s camp, the London club made it known that they consider a €70-75 million (up to £65 million) deal to be fair. Sporting CP ideally want £60–65 million for his services, which means Chelsea have a realistic chance of signing him, but it won’t be straightforward, with Arsenal also expected to be in the race.

The Gunners have been looking for a world-class striker for some time now. Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is their top target, but they are aware of the fact that prising him away from their rivals won’t be easy. As a result, they are looking at Gyokeres as an ideal alternative.
