David Moyes’ Everton to prioritise the signing of Chelsea and Manchester United attacking target Liam Delap.
According to a report from The Sun, Everton will go all out to sign Liam Delap this summer. David Moyes is keen on having more firepower, and his team are all set to prioritise the signing of the Ipswich Town striker, who has been on fire this season.
Delap was a part of the Manchester City youth setup. While he did go up the ranks at some pace and had quite a few impressive loan spells, he wanted a prominent role in the first team, which wasn’t possible. As a result, he ended up parting ways with Pep Guardiola’s team to join Ipswich last summer.
While the club have struggled in the top flight and look all set for a return to the Championship, Delap has certainly made the most out of the opportunities that he has had. The 22-year-old striker has featured in a total of 31 league matches and has contributed 14 goals.
His 12 goals in the Premier League haven’t gone unnoticed, and there are clubs who are gearing up to make a move. While his contract at Ipswich runs until 2029, there is a relegation clause in his contract, which means he will be up for grabs for just £30 million.
Manchester United and Chelsea are two clubs that are keen on signing him. The Blues need someone who can support as well as compete with Nicolas Jackson for a place in the XI. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim is not happy with the output of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and wants a striker who can guarantee goals.
Everton to push hard for Delap’s signature
Meanwhile, Everton have also entered the race for his signature. Both the Red Devils and the Blues have the 22-year-old on their list, but the Toffees have him as a priority target for the summer. They are willing to do everything needed to bring him to the club.
David Moyes is a big fan of the former City striker and wants him to lead his team’s attack next season. They are willing to be patient and wait for their opportunity to secure his services as his price, age, and profile are ideal for them.
The Scottish manager is in desperate need of attacking reinforcement as they have been relying on Beto for goals with Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling to stay fit. The English international’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and he could choose to leave for free. Delap could certainly be an ideal long-term replacement.
The new owners are expected to back Moyes in the market as they gear up for a new era at the Bramley-Moore Dock. However, a move could hinge on Delap’s preference and how far United and Chelsea are willing to go.
