West Ham United have entered the race to sign Liam Delap as they could potentially rival many Premier League sides, including Manchester United, for the striker.
According to Give Me Sport, Liam Delap has emerged as a potential target for West Ham United ahead of the summer. The Hammers are eager to explore a move for a new striker, with the Ipswich Town man now on their list as Manchester United are also interested in the centre-forward.
West Ham United have struggled throughout the season due to the lack of a proper striker to lead the line. Michail Antonio is out for the long-term future after his road accident, while Niclas Fullkrug has only recently returned from a serious injury, as he did score last weekend.
New manager Graham Potter did bring Evan Ferguson on loan from former side Brighton & Hove Albion in January, although the young Irishman is yet to hit the ground running. The search for a first goal at the London Stadium for the young striker may have changed West Ham’s mind over signing him permanently in the summer, as Brighton are expected to demand a significant fee for the on-loan attacker.
West Ham have other names like Jonathan David on their wishlist, although the Canadian striker might be very difficult to sign due to intense competition. The latest name on their list is that of Liam Delap, with the Ipswich Town striker emerging out of a big season despite the looming threat of relegation on the Tractor Boys.
The Hammers are not alone in the mix, as Manchester United are also keen on Delap ahead of the summer. There is a presence of a £40 million release clause in the striker’s deal, who has contributed to 14 goals this season. Despite those numbers, Ipswich Town are now one of the favorites to suffer relegation back to the Championship.
Liam Delap wants Premier League stay
Delap is eager to stay in the Premier League ahead of next season, and he will have no shortage of interest from some of the big clubs in the top division. As per Fabrizio Romano, Delap’s release clause will be reduced to £30 million if Ipswich Town were to be relegated, which would be a big boost for teams like West Ham.
In any case, the striker has impressed enough to convince some of the top teams to make a sizeable investment in his signature ahead of the new season. West Ham will certainly offer him a prominent role if he were to join them, although the prospect of joining a team like Manchester United will be tempting for a young prospect like Liam Delap.
