Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Turkish goalkeeper Berke Ozer from Super Lig club Eyupspor in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Ajansspor, Berke Ozer is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. So, they have set their sights on the Eyupspor shot-stopper, with a scouting trip on the cards this weekend to monitor the Turkish keeper.
Who is Berke Ozer?
Berke Ozer is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. Turkiye has produced many in-demand players in the last few years, with Semih Kiliscoy and Baris Alper Yilmaz attracting interest from several well-known clubs, including Newcastle United.
As for Ozer, the Turk has been with Eyupspor since January 2023, although he had to wait for six months before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at the Super Lig club. The 24-year-old has found a stable foothold at the Eyup Stadium, turning out over 50 times thus far while keeping 25 clean sheets and conceding 56 goals.
Meanwhile, Ozer’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for the Turkish goalkeeper’s signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Newcastle United’s interest in Berke Ozer makes sense. The Magpies are combing the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka are on the wrong side of 30, with the latter in the twilight of his career. In addition, Pope has struggled with fitness issues for most of his spell with Newcastle United.
So, several goalkeepers, including Aaron Ramsdale, have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Ozer also a viable target. The 24-year-old Turk’s exploits have compelled the Tyneside outfit to dispatch scouts, and they will watch him in the Super Lig clash with Adana Demirspor later this week.
Ozer will hope to produce a game-changing performance to pique Newcastle United’s interest further. It will be interesting to see if the Turkish shot-stopper becomes the Magpies’ top goalkeeping target in the summer transfer window.
