Merlin Rohl dreams of Premier League move amid Everton links

Everton have been handed a boost in the pursuit of Merlin Rohl, with the attacking midfielder open on joining a Premier League club.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Merlin Kohl is eager to make a move to the Premier League in the upcoming transfer window. Everton are one of the clubs keen on the attacking midfielder, and the latest update will boost the Toffees’ hopes.

Everton are expected to bring in some key reinforcements ahead of next season, as David Moyes will be keen to take the team much further than they currently are. The Scotsman will need new players to strengthen their side, as an attacking midfielder is on their agenda.

One of their targets is Merlin Rohl, with the 22-year-old impressing with his performances for SC Freiburg in Germany, While he does not have a whole lot of goals to show for his cause, there are elements in his game that would end up suiting a lot of clubs.

Rohl is also having an injury-ravaged season, which has forced him to miss a lot of games, while a fresh problem has ensured he has not played over the last month. The youngster has a single assist to show for his cause, although that has not dimished the interest in his signature, as Crystal Palace are interested alongside Everton.

Everton are considered very much ahead of other suitors in this race, with the player’s camp also open to the possibility of considering the Merseyside club ahead of the summer. Freiburg reportedly want more than €20 million, which might work out after a period of negotiations between all parties.

Merlin Rohl open to Premier League switch

As per Plettenberg, Rohl is open to the idea of playing in England and might even give consideration to the prospect of joining Everton. The idea here might be to get a stage set for himself to make a move to the Premier League and build from there.

Whether Everton are open to paying for the €20 million-plus-rated Bundesliga midfield prospect remains to be seen. However, there will be some questions about whether they will want to invest anywhere close to that given Merlin Rohl does not have great output yet, although heading into the summer window he does remain a target.
