Chelsea in pole position to sign Liam Delap

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old English striker Liam Delap from relegation-threatened Premier League club Ipswich Town.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Liam Delap is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the Ipswich Town striker in the summer transfer window. However, the two London clubs are behind the Blues in the race to sign the English centre-forward from the relegation-threatened Premier League club.

Liam Delap and his exploits this season

Liam Delap has enjoyed an exceptional rise in prominence since joining Ipswich Town from Manchester City last summer. The Englishman made his mark during loan spells away from the Etihad for a few seasons before landing on his feet by moving to Portman Road.

The 22-year-old has contributed to 14 goals in 30 Premier League appearances thus far this term, finding the back of the net 12 times and providing two assists. Meanwhile, Delap’s exploits for the relegation-threatened Premier League club have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

A man in demand

Arsenal will likely dip into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window. While Kai Havertz has been a solid performer for the North London club, he has not been as prolific as he would have liked thus far for the Gunners. So, Delap has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Liam Delap is perplexing. The North London outfit broke the bank to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth last summer. While the English striker has struggled with fitness issues this season, he is a long-term solution in the final third for Tottenham. Nevertheless, the Lilywhites remain keen on signing Delap from Ipswich Town.

As for Chelsea, Enzo Maresca wants more firepower in the final third, even though Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu have been impressive this season. So, Delap has emerged as a target for the West London club, with Graeme Bailey suggesting they are in the pole position to secure the Englishman’s services.

Meanwhile, Delap has a relegation clause in his contract, and he will be available for £40 million if Ipswich Town cannot avoid the drop from the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat Arsenal and Tottenham to the 22-year-old English striker’s signature in the summer transfer window.
