Manchester United are considering paying the €42 million release clause for Piero Hincapie although Bayer Leverkusen wants around €70 million.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are considering the possibility of triggering Piero Hincapie’s release clause worth a reported €42 million. There are conflicting reports surrounding the player’s exit clause, as Bayer Leverkusen are set to demand at least €70 million amid growing interest from clubs including Real Madrid.
Piero Hincapie might be a player available for transfer in the summer despite only recently committing to a deal until 2029. Xabi Alonso’s side have fallen off this season after a stellar campaign last time out, and that could lead to an exodus of sorts, with some of their top players expected to depart including the Ecuadorian defender.
His left-sided profile that makes him a good enough centre-back in back three as well as a makeshift wing-back does attract the attention of a few specific managers. Real Madrid and Liverpool have shown an interest, although purely from a centre-back capacity, and now, Manchester United have entered the race.
There are a host of clubs already showing an interest, and now Manchester United are seriously considering a move. The main story is about the Red Devils thinking about triggering his reported €42 million release clause, although Bayer Leverkusen will not accept that and demand at least €70 million.
The idea of an increased price might stem from the most recent contract he signed back at the end of December. Ruben Amorim likes to play a system that is akin to that of Alonso’s at Leverkusen, and hence the Portuguese manager might have seen the benefits of adding him to their list.
Will Manchester United land Piero Hincapie?
Hicapie might be a player who will bring some much-needed versatility to Manchester United’s left side of the backline. Amorim would like to use him in different ways as per the challenges posed, although the price tag on the €70 million-rated Bundesliga defender will be a hindrance for the club to solve, as they may not have the absolute financial fluidity to sort out a transfer.
Real Madrid’s interest is thought to be genuine at this point, although they may as well back away if the price tag remains high. For now, the player remains focused on his task at Leverkusen for the remainder of the season, but there are big doubts whether he will continue at the club starting next season as the Ecuadorian will be targetting a new club in the close season.
