Harry Kane could influence Leroy Sane against Arsenal move

Former Tottenham skipper Harry Kane could play a key role in preventing Leroy Sane from joining Arsenal on a free transfer this summer.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Arsenal are likely to miss out on the potential signing of Leroy Sane, and former Tottenham star Harry Kane could end up playing a big part in it.

Sane’s current deal at Bayern runs out at the end of the season, and the Gunners are interested in acquiring his services on a free transfer. But Kane could once again stand in Arsenal’s way as he looks to convince the German international to continue alongside him in Munich.

The 29-year-old winger didn’t have the best of starts to the 2024/25 season. With his contract running out, reports suggested that he was living his final months at the German club.

But he has managed to turn things around in the second half of the season, giving a lifeline to his career at Allianz Arena. Since he has contributed towards 15 goals in just over 1,800 minutes of first-team action, Bayern are quite interested in handing him a new deal.

Kane could stand in Arsenal’s way

Meanwhile, his teammate and former Tottenham skipper Kane is also pushing for him to get a new deal. He is reportedly campaigning for the 29-year-old to get a contract extension. With Kane looking to spoil the party for Arsenal, their only hope is that a potential salary reduction could end up being a hurdle for Sane.

While he is open to staying at the club and is in talks with Bayern, the German international doesn’t want to agree to a new deal with reduced terms.

In his exclusive Fact Files column, Christian Falk wrote, “Bayern Munich and Leroy Sané are in talks over a new contract. Sané wants to stay in Munich,”

“Kane and Musiala are campaigning for him to get a new contract. His chances have improved, as he has performed very well recently.

“The question that remains: Will Sané accept a reduction in his salary? He currently earns €20m a year. If he does, it will be difficult for the interested Premier League clubs. FC Bayern currently hold the advantage.”

Arsenal’s pursuit of Sane

Arsenal seek more quality on the flanks. While Bukayo Saka has been doing wonders on the right flank, Mikel Arteta remains unconvinced by the output of his other winger. He is keen on signing a player who can bolster the flanks and add more goals.

Sane is quite high on his wishlist, as he could be available for free. But it seems Kane could once again cause problems for Arsenal, as he is trying very hard to ensure Sane stays at Bayern. The German club aims to negotiate a new deal with lower wages than his current €20 million contract.

However, that could be challenging, potentially opening the door for the Gunners—though it’s uncertain if Arteta’s team would be willing to match his existing salary.
