Arsenal and Chelsea could fork out €35-40 million to test Barcelona’s resolve on breakout midfielder Marc Casado in the summer.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing Marc Casado from Barcelona and are willing to fork out €35-40 million for the 21-year-old. The Catalans could be potentially tempted by a large offer for their homegrown midfielder, which could potentially ease their financial burden, although any deal would be tricky at best.
Barcelona could be at the crossroads in the summer with regards to decisions on some of their players. The club are still in financial disarray, which could potentially see them generate funds through player sales, as the Catalans do have a load of homegrown talents they can certainly cash in on.
One of those could be Marc Casado, who is a homegrown talent from La Masia and certainly added to his value with some brilliant performances this season. He has been a mainstay under Hansi Flick, with the 21-year-old Barcelona breakout star instrumental in the club’s rise this season.
There’s plenty of interest coming in for the midfielder from Premier League sides, with Arsenal one of those keen. There’s a growing need to add reinforcements in the middle of the park due to the possible departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey. New sporting director Andrea Berta is tasked with sealing a move for Martin Zubimendi, which could potentially see them cool their interest in Casado.
Chelsea are also keen, with the London side still in the mix after failing to make a move for Casado in January. The Blues are eager to bring some talented players that fit into their transfer policy, and the 21-year-old Barcelona breakout star certainly fits the bill. Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly willing to offer €35-40 million for the midfielder, which will certainly test the Catalan side’s resolve over their homegrown star.
Will Barcelona sell Marc Casado?
The report also stressed the fact that Casado might have lost his place to Frenkie De Jong with the suggestion that Flick possibly preferred the Dutchman more than the Spaniard. They also state the experienced midfielder has been selected more over the 21-year-old since his return from injury, although that may not be the case, as Casado has missed the last two games with an injury and was a starter before.
Barcelona are thinking about selling De Jong if they cannot get the midfielder toed down to a new deal, as Casado might be seen as a bright spark for the future. While the Spanish giants will be tempted by a big offer from one of Arsenal or Chelsea, the €35-40 million mark might seem a bit on the lower side for Casado, while the Catalans are unlikely to part ways with their homegrown talent just yet.
