Newcastle United in three-way battle to sign Aaron Ramsdale

Newcastle United will reportedly compete with Leeds United and Bournemouth to sign 26-year-old English international Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton this summer.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Aaron Ramsdale is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Southampton shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit. Leeds United and Bournemouth are also keen on signing the English international.

Aaron Ramsdale and his career so far

Aaron Ramsdale has been among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League for several years. However, the Englishman has endured a topsy-turvy ride throughout his stint in the English top flight, suffering relegation with Bournemouth and Sheffield United while enduring a frustrating stint with Arsenal.

The 26-year-old joined Southampton in a deal worth £25 million last summer but will suffer relegation from the Premier League with a club for the third time. While Ramsdale has kept only three clean sheets and conceded 52 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions, he has been a rare bright spot for the Saints this term.

However, with Southampton set to suffer relegation from the Premier League, the English shot-stopper will depart from St. Mary’s in the summer transfer window. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Newcastle United mulled over pursuing Aaron Ramsdale in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the Southampton goalkeeper is understandable, considering Nick Pope has struggled with fitness issues in the last two seasons. In addition, Martin Dubravka will likely leave Newcastle United this summer.

So, Ramsdale has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United, with the Southampton shot-stopper ready to leave the relegation-threatened Premier League club. However, the Tyneside outfit will face stiff competition from Leeds United and Bournemouth for the 26-year-old Englishman’s signature in the summer transfer window.

However, it is unclear how much Southampton will demand to part ways with the English international. Considering their plight, the Saints will unlikely be in a position to set a price of over £25 million.
