Manchester City and Newcastle United will compete with Chelsea to sign 25-year-old Serbian international Mile Svilar from Serie A club AS Roma this summer.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Mile Svilar is the subject of interest from Chelsea. In addition, Manchester City and Newcastle United are keen on signing the AS Roma goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Serie A giants will demand around €35 million to part ways with the Serbian international.
Mile Svilar and his Serie A journey
Mile Svilar has made considerable progress since joining AS Roma from SL Benfica in July 2022. A native of Antwerpen, he represented Belgium in age-group football before choosing Serbia as his national side. Meanwhile, the youngster spent his formative years in Belgium, passing through the academies FCO Wilrijk and K. Beerschot AC before graduating from the youth division at Anderlecht.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old has come leaps and bounds at AS Roma, establishing himself as a mainstay between the sticks. Svilar has turned out 76 times thus far for the Giallorossi while keeping 25 clean sheets and conceding 83 goals. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Newcastle United.
A man in demand
Chelsea might dip into the market for a goalkeeper for a third successive summer transfer window despite signing nearly half a dozen shot-stoppers in the last two years. So, Svilar has emerged as a viable target for the West London club. Chelsea should have no qualms about coughing up €35 million to secure the AS Roma stopper’s services.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Mile Svilar is understandable. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Ederson Moraes’s long-term future. So, the AS Roma stopper has emerged as a viable target for Manchester City.
As for Newcastle United, Nick Pope has struggled with fitness issues in the last two seasons, while Martin Dubravka will likely depart from St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window. So, several goalkeepers, including James Trafford, are on Newcastle United’s radar, with Svilar also an option worth considering.
As iterated earlier, AS Roma will demand around €35 million to part ways with the Belgian-born Serbian goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Chelsea, Manchester City, and Newcastle United should have the funds to meet the Serie A club’s demands.
