Tottenham in transfer tussle to sign Leon Bailey

Tottenham Hotspur will compete with four other clubs to sign 27-year-old Jamaican winger Leon Bailey from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Leon Bailey is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Aston Villa winger. However, the North London club will face stiff competition from four other clubs.

Leon Bailey and rollercoaster ride with Aston Villa

Leon Bailey has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £25 million in August 2021. A native of Kingston, he spent most of his formative years in Jamaica but graduated from the youth division at Slovakian club AS Trencin. However, he rose in prominence during his spells with KRC Genk and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 27-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last four and a half years but has seen his stock plummet at Aston Villa this season. While Bailey has amassed over 2,000 minutes of game time across 36 appearances in all competitions, he has been in and out of the starting lineup throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

However, the Jamaican winger’s stock in the market remains high, with several high-profile clubs across Europe setting their sights on him. Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Marseille are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window. However, Tottenham will aim to beat the competition to the Aston Villa forward.

London calling?

Manchester United mulled over signing Leon Bailey in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the Aston Villa winger is understandable, considering Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the North London club. In addition, Timo Werner will return to RB Leipzig after his loan spell with the North London club ends.

So, Tottenham should scour the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window, with Bailey emerging as a viable target. However, it is unclear how much Aston Villa will demand to part ways with the Jamaican international.

Considering Bailey has over two years remaining on his contract, it will not be surprising to see Aston Villa demanding around £25 million or more to sell him. So, Tottenham will have an uphill task to land the 27-year-old attacker in the coming months.
