Tottenham eyeing Ousmane Diomande as Cristian Romero replacement

Tottenham are looking at Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Chelsea defensive target Ousmane Diomande as an ideal Cristian Romero replacement.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tottenham are plotting a raid on Sporting CP to sign their defensive sensation Ousmane Diomande. The Ivory Coast international has been on their radar since his early days in Europe, and they are ready to step up their interest. But, they are not the only clubs who are interested in him, as Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Chelsea have also kept a close eye on him.

Sporting CP signed Diomande in a deal worth £6 million from FC Midtjylland at the start of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength since, establishing himself as a key figure in their team. The youngster already has 92 first-team appearances and has even contributed towards seven goals.

The 21-year-old’s impressive rise and his massive potential have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. While his contract runs until the summer of 2027, there are high chances of Ousmane Diomande making a move to a bigger club in the summer.

His contract at Sporting has a £67 million release clause, but the Portuguese club are ready to let him leave for a fee of around £50 million. While there is interest in him from across Europe, there is a high possibility of him making the move to the Premier League where Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Chelsea are all keen on his signature.

Tottenham are keen on signing Ousmane Diomande

The North London club have a long-standing interest in the Ivorian defensive prospect. Spurs have been keeping an eye on him since his days in the Danish Superliga. Tottenham have scouted him consistently throughout the ongoing campaign as they look to make a move for him this summer.

Tottenham are concerned about the future of Cristian Romero. The Argentine defender has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, and reports suggest he could force an exit. As a result, Spurs want to prepare for life without him, and they consider Ousmane Diomande an ideal long-term replacement.

Spurs could face competition from rivals

Rivals Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United have also been keeping a close eye on Ousmane Diomande’s progress and could rival Tottenham in their pursuit. The Blues want more quality at the back as the current options have been a touch inconsistent.

As far as the Reds are concerned, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate’s futures are uncertain, and they need to reinforce their backline on a priority basis. Diomande could be a great acquisition for Liverpool. The Magpies are also looking to add more quality to their squad. Newcastle United are looking to build a team for the long run, and the Ivorian could be a great fit for their project.
