Kobbie Mainoo is ready to sign a new Manchester United contract despite reports of a standoff and Chelsea’s interest in the midfielder.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, Kobbie Mainoo is ready to sign a new long-term contract with Manchester United. The 19-year-old midfielder has been in reports about a possible contract standoff and possible interest from rival clubs including Chelsea.
Meanwhile, a report by Give Me Sport has claimed Manchester United are increasingly confident about tying the Englishman to a new contract. They have also suggested Chelsea’s interest in the highly-rated midfielder remains.
Chelsea and Manchester United have visibly adopted similar policies when it comes to player transfers and contracts. The Blues, for instance, have probably given the Red Devils a blueprint of managing a bloated wage bill as well as investing in young stars, while also using some homegrown sales to balance the books.
Manchester United have shown plenty of signs that they are willing to invest in younger players with a huge upside for the future. However, they have already begun the process of selling some of their homegrown stars for ‘pure profit’ in the market, as Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood left the club last summer.
Manchester United are also reportedly open to selling Kobbie Mainoo if the player continues to hold his stance over a proposed new deal. The idea of offloading the homegrown midfielder might help the club to stay fluid with their spending in the transfer market, with Chelsea one of those interested in the midfielder.
The 19-year-old was reportedly ready to snub proposals from Manchester United, with his wage demands being the biggest factor. The report points towards an asking salary of £180,000 per week, which is well above what Manchester United had planned on offering.
Manchester United hopeful of Kobbie Mainoo’s renewal
Manchester United have stayed hopeful about renewing Mainoo’s contract despite the many links over a move away for the 19-year-old Chelsea target. The report also points to Amad Diallo’s recent renewal which is around the £120,000-a-week mark, which should give an idea of what Mainoo’s offer might be.
Manchester United are keen to keep hold of the 19-year-old, and they are hopeful of renewing his deal for the long-term future. Not only does that allow them to have the midfielder for many more years, but it also rubberstamps their prospects of achieving a large enough fee in the market, as the club are eager to continue their association with the homegrown talent.
