Barcelona plot €60 million move for Sandro Tonali

Barcelona are reportedly interested in a move for Sandro Tonali, although Newcastle United are not interested in selling the Italian international.

According to Caught Offside, Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer. The Newcastle United midfielder could be signed for €60 million as per the report, although the Magpies nor their manager Eddie Howe has any interest in offloading the Italian international.

Sandro Tonali joined Newcastle United in a deal close to £55 million back in the summer of 2023, and yet the midfielder feels like a new signing. The primary reason for that was his long ban from the game following a betting charge, as there were doubts the club might consider offers for him last summer.

Newcastle United had no plans of that sort, and so far this season, Tonali has been immense for Eddie Howe’s side. Some reports stated that the Magpies might consider selling him for a specific fee, which was reported to be less than the current story’s suggestion of €60 million.

The main story here involves Barcelona, who are reportedly interested in signing the Italian international in the summer. There are some requirements in their midfield, with doubts over Frenkie De Jong’s immediate future, as the Catalans are potentially thinking about selling the Dutchman if he refuses to sign a new deal the club have presented.

Tonali could be seen as a direct replacement for De Jong, although they could also view the Italian as an additional signing while keeping the Dutchman. In any case, there are some concerns with Barcelona and their finances, as there are doubts whether they can afford even a €60 million asking fee.

Newcastle United are uninterested in selling Sandro Tonali

Apart from Barcelona, there are other teams, primarily from Italy that are interested including former side AC Milan. Juventus are also keen to sign Tonali and bring him back to his homeland, although those sides including the Catalans are set to be disappointed because as per Football Insider Newcastle United are not interested in entertaining the idea of selling the midfielder.

Howe views Tonali as crucial to his plans going forward alongside other key stars. Newcastle United are set for a testing summer window, where all eyes will be on their ability to keep hold of top talents like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes. Alongside the latter and Joelinton, Tonali has formed a formidable midfield partnership at St James Park, something Howe will want to keep ahead of next season.
