Chelsea will reportedly aim to beat the competition to Dean Huijsen, with the West London club open to paying €60 million to land the Bournemouth defender this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dean Huijsen is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Liverpool and Real Madrid are also keen on signing the Bournemouth defender in the summer transfer window. However, the Blues want to steal a march on the other suitors by triggering the release clause worth €60 million to land the Spanish international.
The rapid rise of Dean Huijsen
Dean Huijsen has been a revelation since joining Bournemouth from Juventus last summer. Selling the Dutch-born defender has been one of several mistakes by the Bianconeri in the past year. However, Juventus’s loss has been Bournemouth’s gain, with the teenage sensation establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Huijsen has turned out 27 times thus far for Bournemouth this season, chipping in with two goals. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old has earned his debut for Spain with his exploits for the Premier League club. In addition, the youngster’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Chelsea.
A man in demand
Liverpool might dip into the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. Even if the Dutch defender remains at Anfield, the Reds need to find a long-term successor. So, the Spanish international has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in Dean Huijsen makes sense. Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30, while Eder Militao’s long-term fitness is suspect. So, Huijsen is an option worth considering for Real Madrid. However, the reigning La Liga champions do not want to get into a bidding war for the teenage sensation.
That stance gives Chelsea an advantage amid the West London club’s eagerness to steal a march on the other suitors. With Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, and Trevoh Chalobah facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea can do with a new centre-back. So, the Bournemouth defender has emerged as a viable target.
The report has claimed that the Blues are open to triggering the release clause of €60 million in Huijsen’s contract with Bournemouth. So, it will be interesting to see if the 19-year-old Spanish international moves to the West London club in the summer transfer window.
