Real Madrid ready to make move for Martin Zubimendi

Real Madrid’s search for a new midfielder could see them compete with Arsenal for the signing of Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer.

According to Fichajes, Martin Zubimendi is a player that Real Madrid would like to target in the summer. The Spanish giants are looking for a new midfielder in the market, and they could rival Arsenal in the hunt for the Real Sociedad man.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning changes to their squad, with midfield being an area of focus for the club ahead of the summer. The overarching argument about it revolves around how the club haven’t replaced the retired Toni Kroos while keeping a close eye on Luka Modric and a possible retirement date.

The latter is angling to stay put at least for another season, with emerging reports stating the veteran Croatian could be in line for another one-year contract. In any case, Real Madrid are focused on landing a midfielder who could have a place in the side for a long time, with some names like Martin Zubimendi mentioned as an option.

The Martin Zubimendi case is quite unclear, with credible reports in January stating he had agreed to a move to Arsenal. Further suggestions indicate the Spaniard already has a tentative agreement with the Gunners. Despite those claims, there is no clarity whether that remains the case or whether the 26-year-old La Liga midfielder is still on the market.

Real Madrid had tentatively ruled out a move earlier, as has been the case with Enzo Fernandez, with Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller an option for them in the summer. However, it appears, the Spanish Capital giants are ready to compete with the Gunners for Zubimendi ahead of the summer.

Will Real Madrid sign Zubimendi?

Arsenal have reportedly progressed with the Martin Zubimendi deal, and the relaxed nature of the club in the background suggests they may have the player in the bag. The idea of Real Madrid entering the race at this stage may not seem far-fetched, although there are doubts whether they will sign the 26-year-old, not because of the Gunners, but because he might not fit them stylistically.

While Zubimendi is regarded as one of the best midfielders in his position, Real Madrid may already have that type of player in Aurelien Tchouameni. Hence, the links with Stiller make more sense, and even Fernandez, as those are the kind of midfielders that the team currently needs, irrespective of whether Modric stays or leaves.
