Christopher Nkunku could seal a summer exit from Chelsea after failing to establish himself in the team despite being given the chance.
According to Give Me Sport, Christopher Nkunku could be headed towards the exit door in the summer following an unsuccessful tile at Chelsea. Despite being given a chance to shine, the French forward has failed to deliver, as he could assess potential options in the close season.
Chelsea are expected to make another foray into the transfer market for signings in different positions, which could see some of their current stars leave. As has been their policy over the last two or three years, that has seen constant changes made to the squad, with only a handful of players considered untouchable in the current system.
Christopher Nkunku could be the next big star to angle a departure out of Stamford Bridge, with the attacker coming close to leaving in January. The Frenchman’s case is quite baffling after enduring a frustrating period in the first half of the season with a lack of game time in the Premier League to not taking his chances when he was afforded a few.
Nkunku has excelled in other competitions, notably the UEFA Europa Conference League, as he is one of Chelsea’s top scorers across all fronts this term. However, in the Premier League, his performances have been below par despite being afforded regular starts since the injury to Nicolas Jackson, as he has one goal and an assist in the last 12 games, with those coming in a game against Southampton.
He replicated his display against the same opposition from 13 games ago, which does not represent good value for the amount of money Chelsea paid to acquire him. The Blues are ready to offload Nkunku in the summer, with the disgruntled attacker likely to evaluate his options and study offers.
Where will Christopher Nkunku go?
Nkunku was open to joining Manchester United in January when a deal with Bayern Munich broke down. The chief reasoning for the latter was Chelsea’s asking price, with the club still demanding upwards of £60 million for the attacker, something the Bavarian giants were not keen to pay.
Manchester United also failed with an approach at the end of the winter window, and there might be doubts about whether they will return, especially after the £60 million-rated attacker’s performances since. Hence, it remains to be seen which clubs come forward with a viable offer that pleases Chelsea chiefs and convinces them to sell, as Nkunku is likely to want a departure from Stamford Bridge.
