Liverpool might look to sign 22-year-old English centre-back Levi Colwill in the summer transfer window after approaching Chelsea to enquire about a possible move.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Levi Colwill remains the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Chelsea defender. They have contacted the West London outfit to enquire about signing the English international.
Levi Colwill and his Chelsea career so far
Levi Colwill has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League since breaking into the first-team squad at Chelsea. A native of Southampton, the Englishman spent most of his formative years with the West London club and graduated from the fabled Cobham division.
The 22-year-old had to bide his time before breaking into the first-team squad at Chelsea, excelling in his loan spells with Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion before establishing a foothold at Stamford Bridge. However, Colwill has not looked back since then, becoming a mainstay at the back for the Premier League club.
The English international has turned out over 50 times thus far for Chelsea while chipping in with two goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Colwill’s exploits for the West London outfit have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Liverpool will be one of the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Levi Colwill has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, considering the Reds are in a spot of bother over Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future. While recent reports have claimed that the Dutch defender might leave Liverpool, the Premier League bigwigs hope to tie him to a new contract.
However, van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career, while Joe Gomez continues to struggle with fitness issues. So, several candidates, including Jorrel Hato, are on Liverpool’s radar, with Colwill also a viable target. The Reds have approached Chelsea to enquire about signing the 22-year-old Englishman.
However, Liverpool will unlikely land the English international, with Chelsea viewing him as a future captain. So, the Merseyside outfit must look elsewhere for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window.
