Borussia Dortmund are eager to keep key defender Nico Schlotterbeck at the club for the long-term future and offer him the captaincy of the team.
According to Bild via Sport Witness, Borussia Dortmund are ready to make a compelling offer to keep hold of Nico Schlotterbeck ahead of the summer. The German international defender has plenty of interest from teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona, as the Bundesliga giants are willing to offer him a new deal as well as the captaincy.
Nico Schlotterbeck has gone from strength to strength in his career following his move from Freiburg two years ago. The defender has established himself as a key star at Borussia Dortmund as well as the German national team, which has naturally attracted the interest of bigger teams.
Liverpool are one of those interested, while Arsenal are also keen to explore a deal for the defender if there’s a chance. The Gunners are not particularly looking for another profile such as Schlotterbeck, although a departure or so might reignite their interest, as they are also keen on Jorrel Hato from Ajax.
Liverpool are open to paying big for the 25-year-old Bundesliga defender, given they view him as a possible replacement for Virgil van Dijk. Real Madrid were also keen earlier in the season, and given they are set to enter the market for a left-sided centre-back, Schlotterbeck could be a big option.
Finally, there’s loose interest from Barcelona, although that is not an area the Catalans are looking into as a priority ahead of the summer. Nevertheless, should Borussia Dortmund decide to sell Schlotterbeck, they will demand a significant fee, as the summer might be the best time to make the sale given the 25-year-old Bundesliga defender will enter the final two years of his existing deal.
Borussia Dortmund intend to keep Nico Schlotterbeck
Borussia Dortmund are eager to keep hold of Schlotterbeck amid big interest from elsewhere, as they are prepared to make the defender one of their highest earners at the club. Moreover, BVB are open to handing the captaincy to the 25-year-old Bundesliga defender in an attempt to make the proposition all the more attractive.
Borussia Dortmund wants Schlotterbeck to reject the overtures of suitors in the summer and commit his future to the club. Whether that ends up materialising in the Bundesliga club’s way remains to be seen, as Schloitterbeck is one of the most talented left-sided centre-backs in Europe.
