Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Borussia Dortmund defensive sensation Nico Schlotterbeck.
Liverpool will look to reinforce their defence ahead of next season on a priority basis, and according to a report from Bild, the Reds are very interested in signing Borussia Dortmund mainstay Nico Schlotterbeck.
The German international joined Dortmund in the summer of 2022 after making a name for himself at SC Freiburg. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as one of the best defenders in the country.
While he has been a rock in central defence, the 25-year-old has even featured on the left flank when needed. Dortmund are struggling in the ongoing season, but Schlotterbeck has still managed to put in some impressive shifts throughout.
His consistent performances have attracted a lot of interest, and with just over two years left on his deal, clubs could look to prise him away next summer. Meanwhile, Dortmund are aware of the increasing interest in their defensive ace, and they are looking to secure his long-term future with a new deal.
They want to extend his stay and are looking to lure him with a hefty pay raise. With an annual wage of around €5 million, he is not amongst the highest-paid players at the club, and Dortmund are ready to change that. While they are pushing hard for a renewal, things could collapse if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Liverpool want Schlotterbeck
The player could choose to move on as he finds himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs. Liverpool are very keen on signing him. The Reds are flying high in the ongoing campaign under Arne Slot. While things are going great, they need to plan for the future.
Reinforcing the backline is among their priorities as Virgil van Dijk is 33, and his contract is running out. It is not yet certain if he will pen an extension. Even if he does, they still need to prepare for life without their skipper as he won’t be around for long.
The Merseyside club see Schlotterbeck as an ideal long-term replacement and are willing to go big to sign him. They are ready to table an offer in excess of €50 million to bring him to Anfield. As a result, it will be interesting to see how things unfold when the window reopens in the summer.
