La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the race to secure the services of 28-year-old Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Luis Diaz is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing the Liverpool forward in the summer transfer window. However, the Premier League and Ligue 1 champions have fallen behind the Blaugrana in the race to secure the Colombian attacker’s services.
Luis Diaz and his Liverpool exploits
Luis Diaz has established himself as a pivotal figure for Liverpool since joining the Merseyside outfit from FC Porto in January 2022. The South American winger hit the ground running at Anfield, and he has been a regular in the final third for Liverpool in the last three years.
While the 28-year-old has not been as prolific as he would have liked, he has shown flashes of brilliance in the last three years. Diaz has amassed 13 goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, the player’s exploits for Liverpool have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Barcelona.
A man in demand
Widespread reports have linked the Colombian international with PSG for several months. The Ligue 1 champions are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Marco Asensio and Randal Kolo Muani. So, the Liverpool winger is a viable target for PSG.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Luis Diaz is understandable. The Premier League giants are eager to rebuild their squad after a dreadful 2024/25 campaign. So, with Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish blowing hot and cold, Manchester City can do with a player like Diaz.
As for Barcelona, Ansu Fati faces an uncertain future at the Catalan club after failing to win over Hansi Flick. So, the Blaugrana will scour the market for a wide attacker ahead of the summer transfer window, with Diaz emerging as a viable target. The report has pointed to Barcelona being in the pole position to land the Colombian international.
With Manchester City and PSG falling behind Barcelona, it will be interesting to see if they can turn the player’s head. However, with the Blaugrana being a dream club for Diaz, the 28-year-old Liverpool forward will likely prefer a move to Catalonia.
