Manchester United interested in Hugo Ekitike

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of 22-year-old French striker Hugo Ekitike at Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Hugo Ekitike is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.

Hugo Ekitike and his resurgence

Hugo Ekitike has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga in the last 12 months. A native of Reims, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland, starting his youth career at Cormontreuil FC before graduating from the academy at Stade de Reims.

The 22-year-old rose in prominence after breaking into the first-team squad at Stade de Reims, earning him a move to Paris Saint-Germain in July 2022. However, Ekitike could not establish a foothold at PSG, and a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the winter transfer window of 2024 helped him get his career back on track.

The French striker completed a permanent move to the Bundesliga club last summer and has been exceptional this season. Ekitike has contributed to 27 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 19 times and providing eight assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing Hugo Ekitike, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker amid Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s inconsistencies in front of the goalmouth.

While both youngsters have shown promise in the last few weeks, Manchester United can do with a new striker. So, several candidates, including Jonathan David, have emerged on the Premier League club’s radar, with Ekitike also a viable target.

However, the Red Devils also have other options on their wishlist, including Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, and Victor Osimhen. So, it will be interesting to see who bolsters Manchester United’s offensive unit in the summer transfer window.
