Chelsea could be inclined to sell Enzo Fernandez if a substantial offer arrives amidst interest from Real Madrid.
According to Mick Brown via Football Insider, Real Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of Enzo Fernandez. Los Blancos are looking to bolster their midfield, and they could end up submitting a massive financial offer to lure him away from Stamford Bridge.
While the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is a key figure in the West London club, they could still end up selling him if they receive a substantial offer from the Spanish giants.
Chelsea broke the bank to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica at the start of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength since. He remains one of the first names on their team sheet under Enzo Maresca. The 24-year-old has featured in 35 outings and has contributed towards 14 goals in the ongoing campaign.
The South American sensation is equally effective in any role in the centre of the park. The Argentine international is an important part of their plans moving ahead and his contract there runs until the summer of 2032. Despite that, there is a possibility of him leaving Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.
Brown’s take on Fernandez’s future
Former Manchester United Mick Brown scout believes Chelsea could sanction the departure of the Argentine international. Despite his importance in the team, the Blues could be tempted to sell him if the right offer arrives.
While speaking to Football Insider, Brown said, “Nothing that happens at Chelsea would surprise me. Fernandez has been an important player for them this season and he’s very much a part of the long-term plans under Maresca. But if a big offer comes in for him, I don’t think it can be ruled out that they’d let him go.
“Real Madrid have been having a look at him, they’ve got their own issues in midfield and Modric is coming towards the end of his time there. So if they decide they want to make a move for Fernandez, I think Chelsea will listen to the offer.
“If it’s a big offer, they will be tempted because that’s what the plan is there, they’ve got replacements already contracted to the club. I must admit it surprised me that Real Madrid are looking at him, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him make that move. I’ve said before – players usually find it very difficult to turn down Real Madrid when they come calling.“
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Fernandez
Real Madrid are keen on signing the 24-year-old. The team in white want to add more quality to their midfield as they look to prepare for life without Luka Modric. While Los Blancos have been linked with quite a few top-quality stars, they are also plotting a surprise move for Chelsea’s Fernandez.
Brown feels if Real Madrid come knocking with a massive financial offer the Blues could sit on the negotiation table. They have already started looking for a potential replacement, which suggests there is a possibility of a move away. While Enzo Fernandez is quite settled at the London club, the opportunity to play for European giants, Real Madrid, will certainly tempt him.
