Aston Villa retain interest in Juan Foyth

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa remain interested in the services of Villarreal full-back Juan Foyth.

According to a report from Estadio Deportivo, Unai Emery is keen on adding Villarreal defender Juan Foyth to his squad ahead of next season. The Aston Villa manager was recently spotted in the stands of Estadio de La Cerámica to watch the 27-year-old in action.

While things didn’t work out for Foyth at Tottenham, the move to Spain has helped him revive his career. He joined Villarreal towards the end of October on a short loan spell with an option to buy. On the back of his impressive performances, they triggered the €15 million buy option in the summer of 2021.

Foyth has gone from strength to strength over the years and is currently their first-choice right-back. While he missed the majority of the first half of the season, he is back fit and has been on fire of late. The 27-year-old has featured as a full-back as well as in central defence.

He has been one of their standout performers since the turn of the calendar. Foyth even bagged a goal in their last outing against Real Madrid. While they ended up on the losing side, the Argentine World Cup winner certainly had an impressive outing.

Emery keen on signing Foyth

He likely left a strong impression on Unai Emery, who was in the stands closely monitoring him ahead of a potential Premier League return. The Spanish manager is a massive admirer of the versatile defenders and wants him in his squad at Aston Villa.

The English outfit did try to sign him during the last winter window but they couldn’t get a deal over the line. Eventually, they ended up adding Andres Garcia to their squad. But, that has stopped them from pushing for Foyth’s signature.

Villa remain keen on signing him and could return for his signature in the summer. He is a perfect fit for Emery’s system and the Spanish manager wants him in his squad at all costs. Since he will only have a year left on his deal after the end of the ongoing campaign, Villarreal will struggle to keep hold of him. But, they will certainly want to recoup the €15 million they had invested to bring him to the club.
