Manchester United could target a move for Jan Oblak as a competitor for the No.1 spot with Atletico Madrid reportedly demanding around €30 million.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are being linked with a move for Jan Oblak ahead of the summer. The Red Devils could explore a move for a new No.1 to provide competition for Andre Onana or even sell the Cameroonian, with the Atletico Madrid star considered among other options.
The goalkeeping situation at Manchester United is not very much of a problem at the moment, although there are sections of the fanbase unhappy with Andre Onana. The Cameroonian has been an expensive acquisition from Inter Milan two years ago, although he’s yet to prove his total worth at the club.
There’s a big argument to replace Onana, although Amorim might be thinking about bringing in a solid competitor in the squad to challenge the Cameroonian. The big issue around the summer window is the lack of fluid funds, which could see Manchester United focus on more important areas of the team in the summer market.
Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin has been linked, with the Ukranian likely to leave the Spanish giants in search of regular game time. AC Milan’s Mike Maignan is another target for the Red Devils, although signing him would need the club to cough up a huge fee.
Jan Oblak becomes the latest player to be linked with a move to Manchester United, and these rumours have been in the media for more than two years now. The Atletico Madrid stopper has no reason to leave the club given he has a contract until 2028, however, the report states the Slovakian is unhappy following their exit from the Champions League.
Will Manchester United sign Jan Oblak?
The report states Oblak could cost in the region of €30 million, which might be well within range for a club like Manchester United. However, any deal will depend on the player’s will to make the switch, given Atletico Madrid are likely to play Champions League football and Manchester United are likely aren’t.
The €30 million-rated La Liga star dreams of lifting the Champions League, and currently, Atletico Madrid are in a far better position to challenge than Manchester United. Hence the chances of Oblak moving to Old Trafford are remote, although things could change when the summer window opens.
