Manchester United will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old English goalkeeper Aynsley Pears from the Championship club Blackburn Rovers in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Alan Nixon on The Sun, Aynsley Pears is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.
Who is Aynsley Pears?
Aynsley Pears has established himself as one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the EFL Championship since joining Blackburn Rovers from Middlesbrough in October 2020. A native of Durham, the Englishman spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Middlesbrough FC.
However, the 26-year-old has risen in prominence during his spell with Blackburn Rovers. Pears has been excellent thus far this season, keeping 13 clean sheets while conceding 35 goals in 35 EFL Championship appearances as the Riversiders aim to remain in contention for Premier League promotion.
Meanwhile, Pears’s progress at Blackburn Rovers has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards for the English goalkeeper, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Aynsley Pears is understandbale. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. While Altay Bayindir has produced impressive performances in his limited opportunities this term, he might not have a long-term future with Manchester United.
In addition, Tom Heaton is in the twilight of his career, while first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana has blown hot and cold throughout his spell with Manchester United. So, several goalkeepers, including Mike Maignan, have emerged on the Premier League club’s radar, with Pears also a viable target.
Manchester United’s specialist scout Tony Coton has regularly watched the experienced shot-stopper in the EFL Championship. So, it will not be surprising to see the Red Devils launching the offensive to sign the 26-year-old Englishman in the summer transfer window.
