Real Madrid keen on signing Enzo Fernandez

Real Madrid are plotting a summer move for Enzo Fernandez, a potential replacement for key midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

According to Fichajes, Enzo Fernandez has emerged as a target for Real Madrid ahead of the summer as the Spanish giants plot a big midfield signing. The report claims the club are willing to offload Eduardo Camavinga and view the 24-year-old mainstay as one of the main candidates to replace the Frenchman.

Real Madrid are expected to have an active summer window, with Florentino Perez already planning some significant arrivals at the club. Apart from the rumoured deal for Trent Alexander-Arnoild on a free transfer, Real Madrid are also planning on a left-back, central defender and now a midfielder.

Rumours have stated Real Madrid could sell Eduardo Camavinga for €70 million and have shortlisted at least three midfielders to replace the Frenchman. Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton remains one of those, while PSG’s young star Joao Neves has also made the list.

Chelsea’s 24-year-old midfielder Enzo Fernandez is an eye-catching target on Real Madrid’s shortlist. The World Cup winner has not had the best of times since joining Chelsea in a then-British record deal from Benfica, and there have been some rumours that the Blues could cash in.

Chelsea had set a €120 million price point ahead of January, and while the report claims they could sell the 24-year-old mainstay for around €80 million, the Blues are unlikely to take such a big hit. Fernandez remains a key part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, as Chelsea will be banking on his services for next season unless suitors match their huge asking price.

Fernandez to replace Eduardo Camavinga?

Signing Fernandez might be a strong statement of intent from Real Madrid, although selling Camavinga to accommodate the Argentine might be a silly decision. The Frenchman has been a rock-solid performer for Real Madrid, and there are some doubts over the report’s claims that the club is open to selling him.

Real Madrid might view Fernandez as a viable candidate to replace the Frenchman; it’s rather difficult to see the Frenchman leaving in the first place. Moreover, the Spanish giants are unlikely to pay huge fees to sign the Chelsea mainstay, as the Argentine is firmly expected to stay put at Stamford Bridge, given his long-term contract there until 2032.
