Liverpool compete with Aston Villa, Real Madrid for Konstantinos Koulierakis

Liverpool will reportedly compete with Aston Villa and Real Madrid to sign Konstantinos Koulierakis from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Konstantinos Koulierakis is the subject of interest from Liverpool. However, the Reds face stiff competition from Aston Villa and Real Madrid, among others, for the VfL Wolfsburg defender. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga club will demand around €40-50 million to part ways with the Greek international in the summer transfer window.

Who is Konstantinos Koulierakis?

Konstantinos Koulierakis has established himself as one of the most dependable defenders in the Bundesliga since joining VfL Wolfsburg from PAOK Salonika last summer. A native of Chania, he spent his formative years in Greece and graduated from the youth division at PAOK.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining Wolfsburg, becoming a regular at the back for the Bundesliga outfit. Koulierakis has turned out 25 times thus far for Die Wolfe while chipping in with two assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Real Madrid.

A man in demand

Aston Villa will likely dip into the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. Tyrone Mings is on the wrong side of 30 and has struggled with fitness issues in the last 18 months. In addition, Unai Emery does not have much quality beyond Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa. So, several candidates, including Joel Ordonez, are on Aston Villa’s radar, with Koulierakis also a viable target.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Konstantinos Koulierakis is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window, considering the lack of depth in the central defensive unit. In addition, Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career, while he has yet to sign a new contract. So, the Greek defender is a viable target for Liverpool.

As for Real Madrid, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Eder Militao has suffered two long-term knee injuries in as many seasons. So, Real Madrid should sign a top-class centre-back in the summer transfer window, with Koulierakis being an option worth considering.

Meanwhile, the VfL Wolfsburg defender will not come cheap, with the Bundesliga outfit demanding around €40-50 million to part ways with him. It will be interesting to see if the 21-year-old Greek defender’s spell with Wolfsburg ends in the summer transfer window.
